Work out how to integrate signal-cli with GNU Emacs

Can someone with the required competences please look into this? It may be surprisingly simple! And it would really be a dream. There's a starting point: jao.io/blog/signel.html (which has not been improved since the blog post: I communicated with the author, who incidentally hasn't been using it for a very long time).

I also skeptically wonder whether one could incorporate signal-cli with Gnus or ERC.
