Security:
Before we begin this section, it is extremely important that one particular misconception be cleared up:
Macs are not any less prone to viruses than a pc is at this point in time!
This was a clever marketing ploy made by Apple for about a decade during the 2000’s. Most important to your computer’s protection is first and foremost you.
</p>

You must have the intuition to stay off of harmful sites that may put your computer at risk. For instance, even with tight virus protection, it is entirely possible to enter a dangerous site, hit a bad link, and be infected. When it comes down to it, use common sense, that should help you 90% of the time. However every once in awhile having that program may help.
My personal favorite softwares are Avast and AdAware. Both are free initially, and have paid versions with better protection. Getting the paid version is really only necessary if you find yourself going on high-risk parts of the internet often (I.e. adult content)

With all of that said, you may very well still find yourself ending up with viruses on your computer. There are countless different varieties ranging from keyloggers to toolbars to hidden extensions. It would be impossible to troubleshoot every possible virus, instead, be sure to keep a careful record of everything going on with your computer when you notice something is amiss. Search the ‘symptoms’ using a separate device if possible to find the best fix. Additionally, if you do find something amiss, immediately cease to use and personal data and keep an eye on your credit statement.
