I'm trying a series of model runs starting with existing .pss and .css files using IED_INIT_MODE = 6. Of 5 runs, 3 of them went smoothly but two are moving extremely slowly taking many hours just to simulate one day. The slowest run has over 4000 cohorts according to the logfile, but only 7 cohorts are defined in the .css file. What could be going on here? .css:
.pss:
logfile
ED2IN
config.xml

Could it be related to trying to start a run in January with deciduous pfts? It's been a while since I've played around with that, but I think the initial routine immediately creates leaves, etc. which then immediately die in winter conditions and cause a real spiral of our trouble. If you have a June met file, maybe try that and see if you still have issues? (I always start my css/pss initialized runs in the summer for this reason.) |

I think maybe this was related to trying to grow an evergreen tropical tree at a temperate site. We are trying to use old pss and css files to start runs not from bare ground, but the ED2 PFTs have changed (we think) since those old runs. The sites that had problems had PFT 3 (tropical evergreen tree) growing in temperate climates. Changing those to PFT 8 (temperate evergreen hardwood) seems to have fixed things. |
