Just found this fork. Amazing. I've been trying to hack away but c++ is something I do not know at all, so it's hard! I'm going to put in some Issues here :D - hopefully I can help somehow also.
I've just tried loading in a whole bunch of ROMs for multiple systems, and ran sselph scraper against them. Which is awesome. However now I find that many game images - and some elements within the theme load up as white boxes to the dimension of the image which should be there. If I remove a system or two and reload ES it works fine.
There is also discussion of this at the RetroPie forum. I've managed to have this much better by upping the GPU allocation and lowering the filesize of theme images.
I presume the work toward improving the library would help this greatly.
We can look and see if there is a way to make the loading/management of the images more efficient, but it may just be something we can't tweak much. Have you looked into the way it manages memory to see if there could be some optimizations?
