pdfviewer Invert Mode

I am generally happy with the current internal pdfviewer with invert mode to achieve darker background. However, I was wondering whether it's possible to achieve something like this:

where the background is set to custom colors (not entirely black), while other colors are still inverted correspondingly. I have tried hue rotation but can't get the desired result. Any help is welcome.
