Accessing the BRIRs
The BRIRs in this dataset can be used to create virtual surround sound on headphones through BRIR convolution. This requires IR Convolution software that supports true stereo processing such as Equalizer APO. Configurations for Equalizer APO are provided for each room in the dataset and for a range of common speaker configurations. Custom configurations can also be built by convolving with BRIRs corresponding to the desired source angles or positions within a room. Refer to the naming convention below to locate individual BRIRs within the dataset.
The BRIR file names follow the naming convention below.

Elevation | E0 | Elevation angle between source and listener in degrees. 0 corresponds to a point at the same level as the listener. |
Azimuth | From A-179 to A180 | Azimuth angle between the source and listener in degrees. Refer to the coordinate system below. |
The azimuth angles between the source and the listener’s head follow the coordinate system shown in the diagram below. An azimuth of -90 corresponds to a point directly to the left of the listener while an azimuth of 90 corresponds to a point directly to the right of the listener.
The BRIRs are provided as 2 channel WAV files with a sampling rate of 44100Hz and a bit depth of 24 bits per sample.
