The Fortran codes should be standard-conforming and compile with gfortran -std=f2018.
gfortran -std=f2018
For example, at https://github.com/attractivechaos/plb2/blob/master/src/fortran/nqueen.F90
IF (stat > 0) CALL EXIT(1)
should be replaced by
IF (stat > 0) ERROR STOP 1
