Can't choose gradebook category when making a sub course #23

The subcourse module does not allow you to choose where it appears in GB when you set it up like other assessments. So you have to go to grade book set up and move them all one by one. This is a very painfully slow process to organise the gradebook

+1 Good suggestion, thanks.

Thanks!. What about the other to jump to the the gradebook from the subcourse too?

Hmm, doesn't Moodle has its own link to go straight to the gradebook? I am not a big fan of repeating navigation elements already presented by the core.

Hi David
perhaps it was my poor description. I don't want the user to go to the gradebook of the course the subcourse is in.
Presently your subcourse allows 2 things: the user to click on it and go straight to that course. Or click on the link that takes you to another page (which has fetch grades and go to course. Once in that course the user then has to find the grades link to see the gradebook and what cumulated to get the final results.

If I am in a course that has final grades from another course then the first thing I want to do is go that course and see what constituted that final grade and not just go to the front page of the course where the grades came from. It's kinda like a drill down. Currently Subcourse is like and assignment in the User Report. When you click on that you expect to end up at the marking page of that assignment for that user but instead land on the assignment page and then have to search for that student.

We want to do the same but with Subcourse. Click on the subcourse to take us to the grade page (User report for students and grader report for staff) (exactly like the grade button used to work).

The simplest way to enable this is that when the settings for subcourse are set to "Redirect to the referenced course" unticked, if the user clicks on it they are taken to "https://medschool.otago.ac.nz/mod/subcourse/view.php?id=112842" on this has "go to course". A simple new link below it could have "go to grades" in this course.

Why is this a good improvement? For our use we use subcourse to bring in 3 years of course results. About 60 courses final grades. We then use the course that all the Subcourses are in as our "student progress course". We split the gradebook into the 3 years and their assessments and do calculations on each year to assess if they are on track to pass. If one of the modules says "Fail or conditional Pass" the first thing we want to do is click on it and see why from that module (moodle course) they failed and which assessment/s it was. Then assess what they need to do to pass. It may be simple for us moodlers to go to the course and find the gradebook link and click on that but management aren't moodlers and would like one click to go straight to that courses gradebook and view all assessments.

Apologies for the lengthy reply Scott

Please see issue #22 that addressed the situation with going to the gradebook in the referenced course.
