Analyzing NDVI levels around bodies of water to detect any significant decreases, which could indicate reduced water levels and increased draught conditions. There are many other indices available for measuring drought, including the Normalized Difference Drought Index (NDDI), which was identified as the most sensitive indicator to drought according to many papers including “Cheng-Lin, L., and Jian-jun, W. 2008. Crop Drought Monitoring using MODIS NDDI over Mid-Territory of China”

Given EVI and NDVI are proxies for agricultural productivity, we can overlay the EVI maps with drought analysis (SPI). Please replicate the Niger analysis.

This analysis has been done using the SPEI indicator as done for Niger, additionally, identifying water bodies in Syria and creating water buffer zones, extracting EVI data for these zones to plot a yearly trend for comparison
