In an effort to see a name more clearly, the user zooms in one level.
The building gets bigger, but the name gets smaller... in proportion to the building that is.

Yes, the name actually doesn't change size. As proven by the side to side comparison. But psychologically, it gets smaller.
Sure: "Just hit CTRL++". But that is a bad workaround.

Why isn't this a problem also with Google Maps? Well Google Maps uses a larger font to begin with.
