Summary

Important for me to learn more Python in case a group ever asks for our help writing/reviewing code in the language. I've made an effort at that already but good to keep focus on it as much as possible. Also, note that eventually we may want SSECR to be bilingual (R + Python) so these skills could translate well there.

Starting Tasks

  • Scan through ESIIL Data Short Course content
    • Consider gathering community at NCEAS to attempt as a group
    • Integrate novel bits into my bilingualism site
  • Attempt 30 Days of Python challenge
    • Integrate novel bits into my bilingualism site
  • Finish fleshing out R-Python Bilingualism website spatial component
    • I.e., learn more about vector data + map-making in Python

30 Days of Python Progress

In the interest of not having a million largely redundant comments I'm reporting progress on the 30 Day challenge like so:

Re-Prioritizing

Many of the last 10 modules are interesting but less likely to be (directly) relevant to my near-future work so I'm triaging to only ones that see particularly useful right now. Can always return to the others down the line as/if warranted.

Scanned Through ESIIL Content

Looked through ESIIL course book and unfortunately it looks like their actual course content is still hidden. They have recordings of lectures but no public-facing content (at least nothing findable in the obvious spots) for asynchronous learners to pursue at their own pace. There are some useful-looking readings but they are all links to direct sources (e.g., package documentation) so I think I can mark this facet of my learning complete because I can easily find those resources myself as/if they prove useful

Done with '30 Days Challenge'!
