We advert the TED files as multilingual... but ZIM metadata are English only. This is an attempt to find a solution to that problem.

On TED side would we have translated versions of ZIM "Title" and " Description"?

Which metadata are you referring to? ZIM metadata?

If yes, then none of the ZIM metadata comes from TED, they are configured/created by us.

And AFAIK, it has already been decided that ZIM metadata are localized to main language and not translated

I think that the error is in advertising these TED talks as multilingual (as opposite to PhET, where the content is equally available in a number of languages via a simple toggle). These TED conferences have subtitles, which is an entirely different proposition then if they were, in fact, dubbed in several languages.

The mul tag must be deprecated, and we should instead allow for individual languages to be selected in the zimfarm.

It has been decided that we use the main language for the metadata AND there is no way to specify localised metadata.

There is no "mul" tag AFAIK and Zimfarm issue should be made on ZIMfarm. Not sure to fully understand this remark, but indeed ZIM farm language filtering does not work fine with multilang recipes.

I suspect that we're discussing different issues, would be better addressed by a direct discussion.

We've agree orally that this issue is solved with #207, #208 and #212.

At a higher level, we need to progress on openzim/overview#38.

Since this is all tracked on other issues, I propose to close this.

Closing this now that it is tracked in dedicated issues.
