Who’s using surrealdb and why?

I’m considering surrealdb for a side project and I really want to understand why others have picked it and if they have examples of projects in production using it. Also, what alternatives did you consider?

I am building a case management system on a side. I know how to implement this on PostgreSQL but I am just curious about SurrealDB properties. I am using ASP.NET Core 7 Preview 7 and Blazor Web Assembly.

My plan is to create a prototype using SurrealDB and learn as I go.

We have only just launched SurrealDB - this is our first public open beta. We ourselves have been using SurrealDB (we built originally for our own products) for the last 4 years. You can see our apps on the showcase repository (https://github.com/surrealdb/showcase). Since launching we have had a massive amount of interest and developers trying, testing and building on SurrealDB in side projects and even in the development stages for some business platforms.

We will keep this discussion open and our showcase repository updated as and when more projects reach production status on SurrealDB.

It is early days but we have same huge plans for the database. Please do let us know if you have any questions.

Do I understand correctly that (almost) all projects in the showcase don't have traditional BE layer and are completely managed by SurrealDB?
Is this the ultimate goal for this project? Seems like AppWrite/Supabase but with more powerful DB part. 🤩 Am I right?

I plan to use SurrealDB in the next projects of my company to build full stack web applications because it promises to offer all the functionalities we need.

But unfortunately at this moment the documentation does not seem to be complete, it only covers the minimum compared to the rest of the functionalities it offers and this is a small impediment, but I am sure that this will change soon. In the meantime, I have already started testing.

Same here, well, the documentation part. The DB looks awesome and should fix alot of things I fight with daily, just the docs are limited (given that its mostly 2 people building the product and the docs, its impressive that there even is some docs xD)
