Lagging and unplayable vr using different setups. #248

What is your video card and VR headset model? We don't have a whole lot of VR on the olmod team. We have noticed some FPS drops when using the flak cannon in VR, I wonder if that's related. |
thank you for the quick responce ill give you my speccy. Operating System my headset is the quest 2. If you need me to test things out in a vr sense I can help out. I would love to play this game with different fov and graphics at maximum. It feels so close to being a reality with your new build. Once again thank you. |
Also I have one question, i looked at your twitter. It said you worked with dx2 for descent. I would love to play that in vr. I feel like it will be like the first time playing doom in vr. Do you know of someone I can talk to that can make this happen? |
If you really only have 2GB VRAM, then I strongly suggest to reduce the texture quality Running out of VRAM would explain the game getting laggy after a while. Overload alone can consume more than 2GB of VRAM, and the rest of your system will need some too. For example, this is my system now, having loaded a savegame from the frist mission of the first DLC pack:
That's 2130MB for Overload alone, and 3118MB VRAM used in total (with the extra memory being mostly chrome + firefox). However, this is what confusing me: There should be no 2GB GTX 1660 SUPER boards. All of these should come with 6GB, which is more than enough for overload. |
I have in the past worked on Retro, the competitive port. I haven't touched the source in 4 years, though. I also don't know the first thing about getting that compatible for VR, so that's probably not something I would be able to do. |
@moonkehh As a thought, can you turn off shadows, restart olmod, and try again? Shadows are a known FPS draw, even outside of VR. |
I appreciate the work you did with programming in this game. I want to talk about an issue I have had with the game recently. So I used vr with the standalone game and it was super laggy. I then did it again with your old OL mod and this mod. https://github.com/fholger/openvr_fsr I used your old OL mod and it worked better then og game but it didnt play at a good fps. I used it to downscale everything in the game so it would make everything run perfect on my setup. With the new OL mod the vr works phenomenal to what it used to it doesnt have hitches untill there is a room with a bunch of lights or long areas with lights. Then it completely stutters like standstill. I even have almost all the settings on the highest which is remarkable to what i used to play. Which is way better than how it used to be. Another thing with this mod is it would change the fov a bit in vr when i used it in different degrees. I tried to download and install this mod and the screen for overload doesn't open at all. it just a couple red floating lines appears and then it gets slower and slower till it crashes.
