I've taken @standupmaths' ideas, plus ideas from https://github.com/GSD6338 and created my own version of this.

My preferred language is C#, so that's what it's written in. Needs a tidy up and a fair few bits are currently hard-coded (thresholds, etc), but with Christmas pretty close I thought I'd just put it out there while I keep improving it. One key difference is that it uses WLED to control the LEDs, rather than them being plugged into the machine the code is running on. There's no effects written yet, beyond a plane sweep for testing, but that's pretty high up on the list!
