If you have a modern version of SQL Prompt installed, you can drop the .sqlpromptsnippet files into the same snippet folder as the .json versions. They will be converted on the next startup of SSMS. I have confirmed myself that this works. (source). If the maintainers would like someone to submit a PR with them converted, let me know.
