CDC SVI Documentation (Methods for Acquiring Data Used in SVI)

To retrieve data table with the following information at the census tract level and zip-code level:

  • Population estimate, 2014-2018 ACS (S0601_C01_001)
  • Percentage of persons below poverty estimate (S0601_C01_049)
  • Percentage of persons with no high school diploma (age 25+) estimate (S0601_C01_033) At Resolution (zip-code; census tract level)

Follow Steps:

  1. Go to https://data.census.gov/cedsci/ and enter S0601 into the search bar
  2. Below “Find a Filter,” select the Geography tab then select the option “Tract,” then “Arizona,” then “All Census Tracts within Arizona”
  3. Below “Find a Filter,” select the Geography tab then select the option “Zip Code Tabulation Area,” then “Arizona,” then “All 5-digit ZIP Code Tabulation Areas fully/partially contained within Arizona”
  4. Below “Find a Filter,” select “Years,” and select “2018”
  5. In the results section to right, select the result labeled “S0601 SELECTED CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TOTAL AND NATIVE POPULATIONS IN THE UNITED STATES”
  6. Download table

To retrieve data table with the following information at the census tract level and zip-code level:

  • Housing units estimate, 2014-2018 ACS (DP04_0001E)
  • Housing in structures with 10 or more units estimate, 2014-2018 ACS (DP04_0012E + DP04_0013E)
  • Mobile homes estimate, 2014-2018 ACS (DP04_0014E)
  • At household level (occupied housing units), more people than rooms estimate, 2014-2018 ACS (DP04_0078E + DP04_0079E)
  • Households with no vehicle available estimate, 2014-2018 ACS (DP04_0058E)

Follow Steps:

  1. Go to https://data.census.gov/cedsci/ and enter DP04 into the search bar
  2. Below “Find a Filter,” select the Geography tab then select the option “Tract,” then “Arizona,” then “All Census Tracts within Arizona”
  3. Below “Find a Filter,” select the Geography tab then select the option “Zip Code Tabulation Area,” then “Arizona,” then “All 5-digit ZIP Code Tabulation Areas fully/partially contained within Arizona”
  4. Below “Find a Filter,” select “Years,” and select “2018”
  5. Select the result labeled “DP04 SELECTED HOUSING CHARACTERISTICS”
  6. Download the table

To retrieve data table with the following information at the census tract level and zip-code level:

  • Households estimate, 2014-2018 ACS (DP02_0001E)
  • Civilian noninstitutionalized population with a disability estimate, 2014-2018 ACS (DP02_0071E)
  • Single parent household with children under 18 estimate, 2014-2018 ACS (DP02_0007E + DP02_0009E )
  • Percentage of civilian noninstitutionalized population with a disability estimate, 2014-2018 ACS (DP02_0071PE)

Steps:

  1. Go to https://data.census.gov/cedsci/ and enter DP02 into the search bar
  2. Below “Find a Filter,” select the Geography tab then select the option “Tract,” then “Arizona,” then “All Census Tracts within Arizona”
  3. Below “Find a Filter,” select the Geography tab then select the option “Zip Code Tabulation Area,” then “Arizona,” then “All 5-digit ZIP Code Tabulation Areas fully/partially contained within Arizona”
  4. Below “Find a Filter,” select “Years,” and select “2018”
  5. Select the result labeled “DP02 SELECTED SOCIAL CHARACTERISTICS IN THE UNITED STATES”
  6. Download the table

To retrieve data table with the following information at the census tract level and zip-code level:

  • Persons below poverty estimate, 2014-2018 ACS (B17001_002E)

Steps:

  1. Go to https://data.census.gov/cedsci/ and enter B17001 into the search bar
  2. Below “Find a Filter,” select the Geography tab then select the option “Tract,” then “Arizona,” then “All Census Tracts within Arizona”
  3. Below “Find a Filter,” select the Geography tab then select the option “Zip Code Tabulation Area,” then “Arizona,” then “All 5-digit ZIP Code Tabulation Areas fully/partially contained within Arizona”
  4. Below “Find a Filter,” select “Years,” and select “2018”
  5. Select the result labeled “B17001 POVERTY STATUS IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS BY SEX BY AGE”
  6. Download the table

To retrieve data table with the following information at the census tract level and zip-code level:

  • Civilian (age 16+) unemployed estimate, 2014-2018 ACS (DP03_0005E)
  • Unemployment Rate estimate (DP03_0009PE)

Steps:

  1. Go to https://data.census.gov/cedsci/ and enter DP03 into the search bar
  2. Below “Find a Filter,” select the Geography tab then select the option “Tract,” then “Arizona,” then “All Census Tracts within Arizona”
  3. Below “Find a Filter,” select the Geography tab then select the option “Zip Code Tabulation Area,” then “Arizona,” then “All 5-digit ZIP Code Tabulation Areas fully/partially contained within Arizona”
  4. Below “Find a Filter,” select “Years,” and select “2018”
  5. Select the result labeled “DP03 SELECTED ECONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS”
  6. Download the table

To retrieve data table with the following information at the census tract level, zip-code, and block group level:

  • Per capita income estimate, 2014-2018 ACS (B19301_001E) Steps:
  1. Go to https://data.census.gov/cedsci/ and enter B19301 into the search bar
  2. Below “Find a Filter,” select the Geography tab then select the option “Tract,” then “Arizona,” then “All Census Tracts within Arizona”
  3. Below “Find a Filter,” select the Geography tab then select the option “Zip Code Tabulation Area,” then “Arizona,” then “All 5-digit ZIP Code Tabulation Areas fully/partially contained within Arizona”
  4. Below “Find a Filter,” select the Geography tab then select the option “Block Group,” then “Arizona,” then “All Block Groups within Arizona”
  5. Below “Find a Filter,” select “Years,” and select “2018”
  6. Select the result labeled “B19301 PER CAPITA INCOME IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS (IN 2018 INFLATION-ADJUSTED DOLLARS)”
  7. Download the table

To retrieve data table with the following information at the census tract level and zip-code level:

  • Persons (age 25+) with no high school diploma estimate, 2014-2018 ACS (B06009_002E) Steps:
  1. Go to https://data.census.gov/cedsci/ and enter B06009 into the search bar
  2. Below “Find a Filter,” select the Geography tab then select the option “Tract,” then “Arizona,” then “All Census Tracts within Arizona”
  3. Below “Find a Filter,” select the Geography tab then select the option “Zip Code Tabulation Area,” then “Arizona,” then “All 5-digit ZIP Code Tabulation Areas fully/partially contained within Arizona”
  4. Below “Find a Filter,” select “Years,” and select “2018”
  5. Select the result labeled “B06009 PLACE OF BIRTH BY EDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENT IN THE UNITED STATES”
  6. Download the table

To retrieve the data table with the following information at the census tract level:

  • Persons aged 65 and older estimate, 2014-2018 ACS (S0101_C01_030E)
  • Percentage of persons aged 65 and older estimate, 2014-2018 ACS (S0101_C02_030E) Steps:
  1. Go to https://data.census.gov/cedsci/ and enter S0101 into the search bar
  2. Below “Find a Filter,” select the Geography tab then select the option “Tract,” then “Arizona,” then “All Census Tracts within Arizona”
  3. Below “Find a Filter,” select the Geography tab then select the option “Zip Code Tabulation Area,” then “Arizona,” then “All 5-digit ZIP Code Tabulation Areas fully/partially contained within Arizona”
  4. Below “Find a Filter,” select “Years,” and select “2018”
  5. Select the result labeled “B06009 PLACE OF BIRTH BY EDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENT IN THE UNITED STATES”
  6. Download the table

To retrieve data table with the following information at the census tract level and zip-code level:

  • Persons aged 17 and younger estimate, 2014-2018 ACS (B09001_001E) Steps:
  1. Go to https://data.census.gov/cedsci/ and enter B09001 into the search bar
  2. Below “Find a Filter,” select the Geography tab then select the option “Tract,” then “Arizona,” then “All Census Tracts within Arizona”
  3. Below “Find a Filter,” select the Geography tab then select the option “Zip Code Tabulation Area,” then “Arizona,” then “All 5-digit ZIP Code Tabulation Areas fully/partially contained within Arizona”
  4. Below “Find a Filter,” select “Years,” and select “2018”
  5. Select the result labeled “B09001 POPULATION UNDER 18 YEARS BY AGE”
  6. Download the table

To retrieve data table with the following information at the census tract level and zip-code level:

  • Minority (all persons except white, nonHispanic) estimate, 2014-2018 ACS (E_TOTPOP - B01001H_001E) Steps:
  1. Go to https://data.census.gov/cedsci/ and enter B01001H into the search bar
  2. Below “Find a Filter,” select the Geography tab then select the option “Tract,” then “Arizona,” then “All Census Tracts within Arizona”
  3. Below “Find a Filter,” select the Geography tab then select the option “Zip Code Tabulation Area,” then “Arizona,” then “All 5-digit ZIP Code Tabulation Areas fully/partially contained within Arizona”
  4. Below “Find a Filter,” select “Years,” and select “2018”
  5. Select the result labeled “B01001H SEX BY AGE (WHITE ALONE, NOT HISPANIC OR LATINO)”
  6. Download the table
