Why MP3 format support was dropped?

I am wondering cause the initial Webcaster protocol specs did have an encoder type. Now I have implemented the protocol support by the specs and suddenly mp3 is no longer there. OPUS is good, but it has its own drawbacks and most users use mp3

Can confirm Liquidsoap example is no longer working after the client update.
