How to Prepare & Package Verks
In this doc, you'll learn: how to prepare a package of verk frames and visors for distribution.
To complete this how-to, you'll need:
- Verk frames (don't have any? See https://github.com/NYCPPE/enablement/wiki/Tips-for-Printing-or-Manufacturing-Verk-frames)
- Hole punched verk transparencies for visors (don't have any? See https://github.com/NYCPPE/enablement/wiki/Tips-for-Hole-Punching-Verk-Visors)
- Lots of elastics (our favorite: Staples #16 rubber bands)
- Big giant zip top bags (our favorite: 13"x18" 3 mil uline zip tops )
- Printer labels (our favorite: Avery 5262's) OR large sticky notes
- Access to a typical office printer
- (Optional): blowtorch.
- Rubber band verk frames into stacks of 10
- Place 100 hole punched transparencies and 5 10-stacks of verks into a clear zip-top bag
- Include an assembly sheet in each package
- Seal package
- Place a label on the outside of each package indicating contents and a 'Do Not Distribute until (3 days from the date of packaging)' note.
Goal: get verk frames stacked into tidy blocks of 10 so they are compact and don't get bent up in handling.

Tip: verk jig: per the video, making a very simple jig can help with frame stacking. The ones we made at Resistor were just scrap wood with holes in which to insert some scrap dowel, positioned at the two inside corners of the verk frame.
Injection molded verk frames can have a seam along the forehead that some people find irritating. One way to eliminate this is to melt it off with a blowtorch, but be careful! You can make the problem worse if you overdo it with the fire and fuse the frames together.
Note for this method, you only want two elastics on your stack, the ones on the curly ends of the frames; just leave off the center one mentioned in the previous section.

Goal: make a tidy package of 50 Verk frames and shields including assembly instructions, disclaimer and quarantine date.

Steps:
- Place 100 punched transparencies and an assembly sheet in a large zip-top bag. If you make your own assembly sheet, MAKE SURE it includes the disclaimer text provided; NEVER ship any PPE without this disclaimer.
- Add 50 frames (5 stacks of 10) to the bag. They should fit the recommended bag size (13"x18") if you interlock the arms as per the video.
- Seal the bag. If you're not using zip-top bags, tape it shut thoroughly. Use extra packing tape to tape down floppy ends of bag to form a compact package so the contents can't slide around.
- Place a label on the bag that reads "Contents: 50 face shields. Do Not Distribute before (date 3 days from the day the bag was sealed)"
- NEVER skip this label or shorten the 3 day withholding time. This is to ensure that any covid contamination dies off before the shields are distributed and used. Remember, you can be infectious with NO symptoms.
- See this template for printing labels on Avery 5262 label sheets.
- If you don't have self adhering labels, you can use a sticky note or even a piece of paper - just make sure to completely tape it down with lots of packing tape so it can't fall off.
