The sorting should not necessarily be alphabetical, but according to a canonical order than should either be encoded explicitly in the teiHeader, or ibnferred from the order in which the witnesses are listed there.
E.g. in Svayambhu, the canonical order are using so far is L K M, though we may wish to change this ub due course and it would be most convenient if if didn't have to manually change all the case of <app> but could change only the definition of the canoninical order in the teiHeader and then get the wanted sequence in display, even if the cose shows the witnesses in a different sequence.
