This PR still needs some work, which I'm unable to put in at this point but feel free to use any of the submitted code for ideas and further implementation.
As far as I'm concerned, all it currently needs is some sort of configuration check IF the user wants to use S3 or not. Currently, it assumes that you will use S3.
