Releases: stacks-archive/blockstack-browser
v0.26.1
This public alpha release features:
- Improved security
The bitcoin transactions needed for name registrations are now generated in the browser. (Without a call to the local Blockstack core node) The pre-order and registration transactions are submitted to and queued on a transaction broadcasting service which will broadcast them to the network in the correct sequence. There's no longer a need to keep the browser online for several hours to register names.
NOTE: The new bitcoin wallet is stored in the browser and secured by the same key as your identity. This is a change from prior versions where we were the bitcoins were stored in a separate wallet from your identity. To migrate the bitcoins from the old wallet, follow the instructions here.
Windows Notes
- This release of the Windows installer runs natively, however, it does not support using the bitcoin wallet or performing transactions, however, the next release should enable both.
- Soon, the Windows build will support all of our features, natively
- This release is signed by "Blockstack PBC"
- The installer is a 'multiple-context' installer. If you run it as a user, it will install only for that user. If you run it as administrator, it will install for all users.
Names purchased in a pre-release version prior to v0.10.0 will need to be transferred to the production keychain location with a future tool.

Windows Build
- This release of the Windows installer runs natively, however, it does not support purchasing names, using our storage system with applications, or using the bitcoin wallet -- this is a leaner application experience that supports:
- creating a profile
- adding social verifications
- transfering Onename addresses to the Browser identity wallet
- authentication with applications that do not use Blockstack's storage system.
- Previous Windows builds used an installation of Docker to execute background daemons for the Blockstack Browser, this supported the authentication, name purchasing, and bitcoin wallet features.
- Trying to install docker and the containers automatically resulted in a lot of problems, and we believe that a native experience for Windows will provide a much better overall experience.

- Adventurous developers can still use the launcher script to help set up a Docker environment
- This release is signed by "Blockstack PBC"
